Calling all witches and wizards, grab your broomsticks and wands as tickets for Ireland’s largest convention for Harry Potter fans, Wizard Con, are on sale!
Almost thirteen years after the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published, the Harry Potter fandom is still alive and well. Following the success of the two previous Wizard Cons, the third one is set the be the biggest and most magical one yet!
Dublin Wizard Con 2020 takes place on the 30th and 31st of May in the RDS, Dublin. It is organised by a group of Harry Potter superfans, whose main aim is for “wizarding fans to come together and share their love of the characters, books, movies, and stories.” For one weekend, the RDS will be transformed into the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Activities and events
Dublin Wizard Con is all about the activities and events, all of which are heavily interactive. Grab the Hermione to your Harry and use the Marauder’s Map to find the seven Horcruxes hidden throughout the venue.
Get some photos in your house robes with some fantastic beasts, including owls and some mystery creatures on site. Newt Scamander eat your heart out! Take some selfies with some of the infamous props and sets; last year there was the flying Ford Anglia that belongs to the Weasleys.
The House Cup is also up for grabs. Earn points for your house as you test your Harry Potter knowledge with the Quizzard’s Game Show. Points can be earned by beating the Death Eaters or trying your hand at riding a broomstick at the Broom Rodeo. At the end of the day, the house with the most points wins the House Cup!
See if you are a Hermione or a Neville as you try your hand at a potions class before attending the Yule Ball. With DJ acts and a Death Eater Disco, you are bound to be able to “dance like a hippogriff” amongst your fellow houses.
Guests and panels
Practice your quidditch skills with panels and guides teaching you how to shoot some hoops. Delve into the world of Harry Potter fanfiction and fan art with panels brought to you by some of Ireland’s biggest fans.
One of the most exciting aspects is the chance to meet some of your favourite Harry Potter stars. The line-up of guests for Wizard Con 2020 is yet to be announced, but last year Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley) and Josh Herdman (Goyle) were amongst the special guests!
Open to witches and wizards of all ages, this “immersive, fun, and intimate fan-focused gathering” is a Harry Potter fan’s dream. The previous two events sold out and with such an incredible line-up already announced, and with more being announced in the coming weeks, we imagine this year will be the same. So, don’t miss out, grab your wand and embark on a magic-filled weekend!
Tickets for Dublin Wizard Con are €35, and they’re on sale at the Wizard Con website.
