This community-driven fairy village in County Cavan is a stunning tribute to the life of Erica NĂ­ Draighneain, who lost her battle with cancer aged five. This village, opened by her parents and local community in her honour, includes beautifully constructed fairy houses.

This gem of a place is a great day out for any time of year too, with the whimsical displays that change seasonally. Here you can enjoy the magic of the fairy folk, while also experiencing the heart-warming community effort first-hand.

The Ardgillan Castle and its grounds are a hidden gem at Balbriggan. But an extra special surprise to be discovered here is a wonderful fairy trail that meanders through the beautiful walled garden.

Not only will you get the opportunity to increase your knowledge of Irish trees and plants along the way, but you’ll also be in with a chance to spot an Irish fairy or two. With free admission, this adorable fairy trail is a family favourite, and a great option for a day out.

2. The Enchanted Forest fairy garden – step into the magical fairy world and explore

There is always something going on at the Slieve Aughty Centre in County Galway. You can enjoy their themed Halloween events, as well as pony-riding facilities. But the Enchanted Forest fairy garden is one particularly special attraction to be explored here.

Upon entry, each child is given a map of the enchanted forest, some fairy dust to help attract the creatures, and a wishing tree hanger. Feel free to also check out the exquisite craft room and fairy-themed gift shop.

As this is a bigger set-up than many on the list, admission is €5 per person. If you are bringing any children under 2, they will gain entry for free.

Aside from the abundance of wildlife in the Belleek Woods, you’ll also be treated to one of the most adorable fairy villages in Ireland, complete with the homes of all sorts of different fairy folk.

It is clear that it took a great deal of imagination to create this village, with each house reflecting the character of the fairy who lives there. Spotting the homes high up in the trees, as well as the hidden ones amongst the tree bark, is great fun for the whole family.

The fairies who live in this free-to-enter village are renowned for their love of children in particular, and have been rumoured to grant them a wish on their visit. But who knows, maybe the fairies will look favourably on the requests of any adults to try their luck too.
